Properyies: The herb is bitter in flavous, cold in nature, and acts on the heart and liver channels. Being bitter for dispersion, purgation and removal of blood stasis, and cold for clearing heat from blood the unprepared herb can stop bleeding by relieving blood stasis and clearing heat from blood; and the stri-baked herb can specially relieve blood stasis to stop bleeding. The herb is often used to treat various kinds of bleeding caused by blood stasis and blood-heat as well as various kinds of pain due to blood stasis.

Effects: Removing heat from blood to stop bleeding, promoting blood circulation and elimination blood stasis.

Indication:

1 The herb is often used in combination with biota tops, capejiasmine, field thistle, rhubarb and other herbs for clearing heat from blood to stop bleeiding, to treat haematemesis, epistaxis hemafecia, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis caused by blood-heat; and with astragalus root, white atractylodes rhizome, cuttle bone, calcined dragon¡¯s bone and other medicines for supplementing Qi, strengthening the spleen, stopping bleeding and curing metrorrhagia, to treat metrorrhagia and metrostaxis due to deficiency and impairment of Chong and Ren Channels.

2 The herb is often used in combination with motherwort, chuanxiong rhizome, peach kernel and other herbs for promoting blood circulation and relieving blood stasis, to treat women¡¯s dysmenorrhae caused by blood stasis or abdominal pain due to the obstruction and blood stasis after childbirth; and with atractylodes rhizome phellodendron bark, honeysuckle vine and other herbs for clearing heat, dampness, and collaterals and alleviating pain, to treat arthritis of heat type due to pathogenic wind-dampness as well as redness, swelling, heat and pain in joints.

Dosage and Administration: 10-15g Stir-bark charred for stopping bleeding, and used unprepared for promoting blood circulation.
