Polyporus Umbellatus

Properties: This herb is sweet and tasteless in flavour, neutral in nature. It acts on the kidney and urinary bladder channels. It has stronger effect of diuresis and excreting dampness to alleviate edema than poria but without tonifying effect. For edema and dysuria due to deficiency of Qi and Yang, this herb is often used in combination with medicines for supplementing Qi and warming Yang, to treat both the principal and the secondary aspects of diseases.

 

Effects: Inducing diuresis and excreting dampness.

 

Indications: This herb is often used in combination with astragalus root, white atractylodes rhizome, prepared aconite root, poria and other herbs for supplementing Qi, warming Yang, inducing diuresis and alleviating edema, to treat edema and dysuria caused by deficiency of Qi and Yang; with atractylodes rhizome, poria, tangerine peel and other herbs for eliminating dampness, strengthening the spleen and arresting diarrhea, to treat diarrhea due to spleen deficiency and excessive dampness; and with yam rhizome, poria and other herbs for eliminating turbid urine, inducing diuresis and treating stranguria, to treat stranguria with turbid urine and leukorrhagia caused by downward flow of dampness.
