Properties:
It is bitter, acrid, salty in flavour and slightly warm in
nature. It acts on the lung, stomach and large intestine
channels. Its bitterness can lower the upward adverse flow
of the lung or the stomach-qi; acridness can resolve
phlegm; saltiness and warmness can soften and remove
blockage. It has effects of lowering the stomach-qi,
clearing phlegm and remove blockage. It has effects of
lowering the stomach-qi, clearing phlegm and relieving
asthma, congestion, and vomiting. It is indicated in
stagnation of phlegm, cough and asthma with abundant
sputum, or stagnation of phlegm-dampness in middle-jiao,
congestion at the right hypochondrium, vomiting and other
syndromes.
Effects:
Lowering the adversely upward flowing of Qi, resolving
phlegm, relieving vomiting.
Indications:
1. For treatment
of accumulation of phlegm-dampness, stasis of Qi function,
chest tightness and abundant expectoration, it can be used
in combination with Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Rhizoma
Pinelliae, Rhizoma Zingiberis and other drugs to aesiccate
dampness to reduce phlegm, promote Qi circulation and
relieve congestion; For treatment of accumulation of
phlegm-heat, cough, asthma and dyspnea, it is often used
together with Cortex Mori Radicis, Fructus Trichosanthis,
Semen Arecae, and other drugs with effects of purging the
heat in the lung, alleviating asthma and sending down
abnormally ascending Qi.
2. For treatment
of weakness of the spleen and the stomach with obstruction
of phlegm-dampness, congestion at the right hypochonrium,
vomiting, hic cup due to failure of descending of the
stomach-qi, and other syndromes, it is usually used in
combination with Radix Ginseng, Rhizoma Pinelliae, Ochra
Haematitum, and other drugs with the effects of
replenishing Qi to invigorate the spleen, lowering the
advers Qi and arresting vomiting, such as Xuanfu Daizheshi
Tang.
Dosage and
Administration:
3-10g, in a
cloth bag for making decoction.
